Consultation events
Over the consultation period we are holding meetings with representatives from NGOs, industry, local authorities and many other organisations. These meetings enable us to explore in more detail the views of interested parties.
This page provides summaries of the three groups of events held:
Please note: The views expressed by participants at these events are made independently. The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform are not responsible for these views.

On Saturday 8 September 2007 nine deliberative events took place across the UK for members of the public. These events took place in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Norwich. They provided an opportunity for a cross section of the public to input their considered and informed views. They will enable us to understand the views of the public after they have heard the key facts and arguments in the consultation. Discussion at the events addressed the same key questions in the consultation document. The public were recruited to be broadly demographically representative of the UK population.
A film providing information on how the events ran and thoughts from participants is available to download here:
A summary report of key findings is available here:
The full report and analysis will be available later this year.
Films, presentation slides and handout sheets were used as stimulus materials at the citizen deliberative events. These can be downloaded below.
The films were designed to provide a brief overview to the topic before it was discussed by participants at their tables. They were not intended to act as a comprehensive guide, but more to start debate.
